August 5, 2010 - Austin, Texas - DAC International of Greenwich AeroGroup announced today that it has been awarded the Supplemental Type Certificate for the installation of dual Universal Avionics Systems Corporation, UNS-1Lw with WAAS and LPV Approach capability on Bombardier Dash 8 series aircraft. The installation includes dual UNS-1Lw with either 5" or 4" displays and covers Bombardier Dash 8-100/200/300 series aircraft.
Part of the Federal Aviation Administration's plan is to reduce dependence on older ground based navaids (such as Instrument Landing Systems) and increase the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation via the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS). The DAC International STC supports this initiative.
Universal Avionics says operators of aircraft equipped with Univeral's WAAS-enabled FMS take advantage of lower descent minimums, greater airport accessibility and improved performance and safety in poor weather conditions.
